Summer birthdays mean that....

Summer birthdays mean that you...

.....eat lots of mexican food. (And if you're lucky your friend works in a gourmet Mexican restaurant, AND your family cooks homemade for you!)

Drink Tequila in celebration of surviving another year.

Wear your special lace dress.

SWIM SWIM SWIM.

Light sparklers.  Because sparklers should be at every golden occasion.

And be lazy because it's too hot to do much else.

August is a very hard month me.  I think for most, especially in the desert, because it's that last stretch of burnt out stale hot weather that feels like someone is constantly breathing down your neck.  Yes, it's that bad.  We have reverse seasonal depression here....the mid-to end summer months make you feel trapped and stuck inside.  No one is getting their Vitamin D from the sun, because who can bear it's scorching rays?

All of those desperate emotions, mixed with the marking of a tragedy in your life...it's hard to celebrate a birthday with full cheer.  I have grown to dread August, and my birthday.  This year though, I had a breakthrough.  I actually genuinely smiled and laughed this year.  I didn't want to cry every other minute.  I enjoyed my birthday, and I owe it to all of my loved ones.  The ones who never gave up on me finding my true happiness again, and the new ones who make every day even better.  I'm thankful for so much, and despite any sort of trial, ready to live life more fully.  Here's to 27.

xoxoxo

P.S.  I know this is late (It's almost Halloween!) but this is an important post for me, better late than never!
